Virtual Reality Lab: Building J at Monte Albán
A Real (and Virtual!) Enigma
Building J at Monte Albán fascinates visitors and scholars alike for its unique architecture and potential historical significance. Its odd orientation and inscribed stone slabs suggest it may have recorded military conquests or served astronomical functions. As one of the earliest examples of Zapotec writing and historical narrative in Mesoamerica, it offers rare insight into political expansion, warfare, and early script development, making it a key structure for understanding Monte Albán’s role in regional history.
